Brewers Spent Grains has always been collected from breweries and taken to farms, sometimes traveling long distances. Although we continue to provide this service to companies that require it, in recent years we have become aware of the environmental impact of our activities. We have invested heavily in R & D to develop the most eco-efficient BSG drying system in the world, managing to reduce CO 2 emissions of our activity by 75%. This allows us to offer a unique product: Dry Brewer’s Spent Grain.

In L. Pernía, we have our own fleet of trucks with different weight capacities to serve our customers.
We help different industries, taking care of the byproducts generated in their industrial processes. We extend the life cycle of these byproducts to improve their properties, increasing its added value in the most sustainable way.

Brewers Spent Grains COLLECTION:
Our vehicles collect daily and promptly all the BSG that brewers need to remove in order to avoid the shutdown of its facilities.

Brewers Spent Grains DISTRIBUTION:
Once BSG is collected, we schedule product delivery to dairies that need to feed their cattle. Distribution is done on a daily basis.

The Early Years
During the Spanish Civil War, Lucio Pernia lived in Santander and went on to manage his own dairy. It was then that he realized the effectiveness of brewer’s spent grain as cattle feed, and began collecting it from local brewers. After the Civil War, in 1939, he moved to Madrid, and then founded his transportation company, at first, carrying all kinds of materials. Recalling its origin as a farmer, in addition to the properties of brewers’ spent grain as food for cows, he decided to bet on the transportation of BSG, having the brewery Hijos de C. Mahou as his first customer, located at Calle Amaniel, 29 , in Madrid.

With over 80 years experience in the industry, L. Pernía S.A. has become a national leader in the collection and distribution of brewers’ spent grain, having collected more than 80,000 tons a year and serving over one hundred satisfied customers nationally and internationally. During these years, L. Pernía became a symbol of trust.

aBrewers’ Spent Grain (BSG) is the main byproduct of brewing, and it is obtained after the pressing and filtration of wort. Its high protein content, its digestive properties and availability make it a very efficient cattle feed, helping to improve milk production.

With over 80 years of experience in the collection and reuse of brewers’ spent grain, L.Pernía has evolved into an innovative company, generating new resources without compromising the sustainability of the company or the environment. We see resources were the world sees garbage. Most waste ends up either in landfills or, in the best of cases, processed as products of less value. 
Our challenge is to give those resources the best possible use.




We go to breweries that need our Brewers Spent Grains collection services and take it to our processing plants.



Once Brewers Spent Grains is collected, we take care of distribution to farms that use it mainly as animal feed.​
